South Whitehall Township, PA HVAC Repair, Installation & Maintenance

MBI HVAC is proud to serve property owners in Eastern Pennsylvania because we live, work and play here, too. With its top-rated public schools, affordable homeownership and a low crime rate, South Whitehall Township ranks as one of the best places to live in the Keystone State.

As one of the original 13 colonies, Pennsylvania is steeped in history, and Eastern Pennsylvania is no exception. The first non-Native settlers of the Lehigh Valley region were from Germany, and their cultural traditions live on today in the Pennsylvania Dutch. The region’s fertile farmland, and later the discovery of rich seams of iron ore, have long nurtured the people who live here. Today, South Whitehall Township is home to more than 20,000 citizens who enjoy its acres of green space and abundant outdoor recreational activities.

Eastern Pennsylvania homeowners need dependable service providers to keep them comfortable regardless of the season. MBI Heating & Air Conditioning is South Whitehall’s most reliable HVAC company, providing routine repair and maintenance in addition to timely emergency services.

HVAC FAQs

Do you have questions about your heating or cooling system? Our BTU Gurus are here to provide answers to some of the things people have asked us about most often during our years in business.

Q: What is the properly sized system for my home?
A: Correctly determining the equipment load requires accounting for several factors. Without adequate training and understanding of the interplay of dozens of variables such as ceiling height and window size, you will not be able to calculate this figure on your own. A unit that is under – or oversized will not run as efficiently as it should, thus wasting money and energy. Contact a trained professional to help you determine the right size unit for your property.

Q: Why should I replace my A/C or heating system?
A: We understand purchasing a new air conditioning or heating system can be a significant investment. However, if your existing system is old, breaks down frequently or wastes energy, replacing it with a newer unit can pay for itself over the long run. Thanks to technological advancements, new systems can be up to 60% more efficient than those manufactured just a decade ago.

Q: Why do I need routine maintenance for my HVAC system?
A: Heating and cooling systems work incredibly hard to perform their functions for your household. They cycle nearly continuously, which can create significant wear and tear. However, professional HVAC maintenance can maximize the lifespan of your heating or cooling unit and guard against many unexpected failures. We recommend getting your unit serviced at least once a year. Some manufacturers may even void your warranty if you fail to get routine maintenance.

Q: What’s the difference between R-22 and R-410A refrigerants?
A: For decades, R-22, or freon, was the most common refrigerant used in A/C systems. In response to growing environmental concerns, however, the EPA has been gradually phasing out the use and manufacture of R-22. It has been illegal for air conditioner manufacturers to use R-22 since Dec. 31, 2009. The most reliable EPA-approved freon replacement currently available is called R-410A. Though it can contribute to climate change to some extent, it does not contain ozone-depleting chlorine.

Q: How often should I replace my air filter?
A: Changing your air filters is a simple, do-it-yourself task that is also the most essential thing you can do to extend the life of your heating and air conditioning system. We suggest checking your filter monthly. If you have a disposable cardboard filter, replace it when it gets dirty – don’t try to clean it. Some higher-efficiency air filters can go up to three months before needing replacement. But in the higher-use seasons, it’s better to check and replace more often.

Q: What indoor air quality systems do you offer?
A: Indoor air pollution is a growing concern, with many people spending up to 90% of their time inside. Allergens like mold, pet dander, pollen and cigarette smoke can circulate through the air vents and make it difficult for people with respiratory issues to breathe. The solution is a smart solution called the AIR SCRUBBER PLUS®, which cleans and freshens indoor air using ultraviolet light. MBI’s HVAC technicians can install the AIR SCRUBBER PLUS® above the air handler inside your ducts, so it has a low profile. If you’re ready for a breath of fresh air in your Lehigh Valley home, call us today at 610-821-9555.

Q: Should I invest in a programmable thermostat?
A: If you and your family are usually away from home at the same times of day, a programmable thermostat can help you save money on your energy bills. You can set these thermostats so they don’t run the heat or A/C at times when nobody is around, so you’re not wasting money heating or cooling an empty building. Then, you can have them turn back on an hour or so before you return home, ensuring you come back to a comfortable temperature. Newer programmable thermostats also link to smartphone apps that allow you to control your thermostat remotely at the tap of an index finger.

HVAC Do’s and Don’ts

HVAC systems are highly complex, and it can often be challenging to recognize the warning signs of problems – or know what to do when something isn’t right. Here are our top do’s and don’ts of keeping your HVAC running smoothly.

Do:

1. Schedule seasonal maintenance and checkups.
Call the MBI team to perform a system tune-up at least once a year. We have the tools and training to service nearly every type and brand of heating and air conditioning equipment ever made. During a routine checkup, we will inspect all elements of your system using a checklist that includes cleaning coils, checking electrical connections and fixing any leaks.

2. Change filters regularly.
Set yourself a reminder to check and change the filters in your air conditioning units, furnaces and heat pumps every few months. Even the smallest amount of dust can cause poor airflow, and seriously clogged filters can lead to an entire system breakdown.

3. Clean and inspect the system often.
Make time to visually check your air conditioner, heater or furnace about every two months, especially after storms. Make note of anything that looks unusual to you, and call MBI if you think there’s an issue.

4. Keep the area around your A/C unit clear.
Trim trees and shrubs near outdoor cooling and heating units, and use a broom to sweep off dead leaves, twigs, pollen and grass clippings.

5. Set systems at optimal temperatures.
According to the Department of Energy, you should set your thermostat to 78 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer and 68 degrees during the winter. Lower the temperature when you’re asleep or away from home for additional efficiency and energy savings. Additionally, make sure your thermostat always has fresh batteries.

Don’t:

1. Take on any DIY maintenance you feel is beyond your skill limit.
Make sure to have a safety-first mentality. There’s nothing wrong with calling for expert help when a maintenance task falls outside your skill set.

2. Procrastinate on making a service call.
If you notice a problem, call someone immediately! Never assume an HVAC problem will get better on its own. Failure to address the issue could lead to much higher repair bills down the road.

3. Assume previous owners kept everything in good order.
Have you recently moved into a new home? Professional HVAC inspection is always a good idea to ensure your peace of mind.

4. Ignore unusually high bills.
If your energy bills have increased steeply, even though your monthly usage has remained the same, call a professional to inspect your HVAC system. Our trained professionals can spot problems you might overlook.
